Meet the Founder: Dr. Charnell Dortch, PhD, LPC, Certified Sex Therapist
From a young age, I was drawn to deep conversations and heartfelt connection. Whether offering advice or holding space for others, I naturally became the “secret keeper” among friends while growing up in Detroit. What felt like casual support at the time was actually the early spark of my life’s calling which was to help others heal through the power of truth and connection.
While attending Clark Atlanta University, my passion for psychology began to crystalize. Originally a Biology major with dreams of becoming an OB/GYN, I felt a deep inner pull during my sophomore year and made the life-changing decision to pursue Psychology instead. That decision marked the first moment I stepped fully into my purpose.
I went on to earn a Master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling from Oakland University, graduating with a 3.8 GPA and a mission to support mental and emotional wellness. Over the years, I’ve worked in diverse settings, including community mental health agencies, psychiatric hospitals, and schools where gaining rich, hands-on experience across populations was meaningful.
Today, I proudly serve as a high school mental health therapist in Metro Detroit and am the founder and CEO of Therapy Uncensored. In 2024, I completed my PhD in Clinical Sexology and became a Certified Sex Therapist, further deepening my commitment to helping clients navigate intimacy, identity, and healing in a safe, affirming space.
About Therapy Uncensored
Therapy Uncensored began as a casual joke during a conversation with a friend has now blossomed into a full-fledged movement. More than a private practice, it is a brand and mission rooted in radical honesty, liberation, and unapologetic self-expression.
At Therapy Uncensored, we believe healing begins when you feel safe enough to speak freely and live authentically. Trademarked in 2019, the brand continues to expand beyond the therapy room—empowering individuals to reclaim their voices, rewrite their stories, and embrace the full truth of who they are.
