Meet the Founder
Dr. Charnell Dortch, PhD, LPC
Dr. Charnell Dortch, PhD, LPC, CST is a licensed professional counselor, certified sex therapist, and intimacy coach with a lifelong calling toward healing and emotional wellness. A proud Detroit native and graduate of Detroit Public Schools, Dr. Dortch has always carried the spirit of care and connection. Even as a teenager, friends naturally sought her out for support, earning her the title of “the secret keeper” long before she entered the field professionally.
Dr. Dortch earned her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Clark Atlanta University, a historically Black college and university that deeply shaped her personal growth, cultural awareness, and commitment to community-centered healing. After returning home, she completed a year of service through AmeriCorps, further grounding her passion for service and advocacy. She went on to earn her Master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling from Oakland University in 2014, launching a fulfilling career working in community mental health and school-based settings throughout Metro Detroit.
In 2018, Dr. Dortch founded Therapy Uncensored and trademarked in 2019. Therapy Uncensored, a private practice and platform rooted in the belief that everyone deserves to live their life out loud, free from shame, guilt, and silence. Through therapy, coaching, speaking engagements, and curated events, Dr. Dortch creates spaces where honest conversations about mental health, sexuality, relationships, and healing are not only welcomed, but celebrated.
Outside of her professional work, Dr. Dortch enjoys reading erotic romance novels, traveling the world, and watching classic Black films always honoring pleasure, rest, and joy as essential parts of healing.

Our mission is to reduce stigma around mental health, particularly within BIPOC communities, while creating spaces where clients can explore identity, intimacy, healing, and truth without censorship.
